Luthier Organizations, Journals and Resources

Guild of American Luthiers - www.luth.org

American Lutherie is a unique journal in that it contains interviews, news, pictures, adventures, research, opinion, and how-to information, all of specific interest to the maker and repairer of string instruments. Sharing lutherie information is what the Guild is all about, and American Lutherie is this organization's primary vehicle for accomplishing that goal. Each seventy-page issue is packed full of information, photos and diagrams. Current issues are available only to current GAL members. American Lutherie is published quarterly at the end of March, June, September, and December.

Association of String Instrument Artisans - www.guitarmaker.org

The Association of Stringed Instrument Artisans (A.S.I.A.) was established in 1988 to help provide a sense of community and professionalism to the field of stringed instrument making and repair. The goals of the association include the establishment of a comprehensive database of resources, supplies and technical information, a means of providing multi-level education within the profession, assistance in marketing and promotion, and the publication of informative newsletters and journals. A.S.I.A. publishes the quarterly journal Guitarmaker, a magazine for builders and repair technicians. Each issue contains a variety of topics for working luthiers.
